Doctor Spotlight: Daniel Lo, DO

At OrthoUnited, we’re all about setting a new standard in orthopaedic excellence. We cultivate world-class care with a team of doctors who are among the best in their fields. One of the outstanding physicians making our mission a reality is Daniel Lo, DO.

Dr. Lo blends advanced training, patient-focused philosophy, and cutting-edge techniques. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2019, he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Aultman Hospital.

His dedication to mastering his craft inspired him to complete an Adult Reconstruction Orthopedic Surgery Fellowship at Ortho San Antonio for complex hip and knee arthroplasty procedures.

How can Dr. Lo help you?

Hip and Knee Care

Hip and knee issues drastically affect mobility, independence, and quality of life. As such, Dr. Lo specializes in muscle-sparing approaches, which are techniques that avoid cutting through major muscles.

For hips, he primarily uses the anterior approach, a method that allows him to reach the joint through a natural gap between muscles. This treats the following conditions and more:

  • Painful total hip
  • Acute and overuse injuries
  • Fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Labral tears
  • Impingement
  • Avascular necrosis
  • Synovitis
  • Iliopsoas syndrome
  • Infections
  • Abnormalities and congenital deformities

For knees, he may use the subvastus approach, which similarly avoids cutting the quadriceps muscle. Patients struggling with any of the following can count on him for high-quality treatment:

  • Painful total knee
  • Meniscus tear
  • Chondral defects
  • Patellar tendon tear
  • Patellar tendonitis
  • Tendon bursitis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Patellofemoral syndrome
  • Stress fractures

The benefits? Just about every patient can experience better outcomes.

Because these approaches minimize trauma to surrounding tissue, they may shorten healing times by up to 50% compared to traditional methods. You can return to walking, daily activities, and even recreational hobbies much sooner and with less pain.

Total Joint Replacement

When nonsurgical treatments like medication, physical therapy, and injections are no longer enough to relieve severe joint pain, total joint replacement may be the only option. This surgery involves removing and replacing the damaged joint with a durable prosthesis that restores function and alleviates discomfort.

Dr. Lo performs advanced joint replacement surgeries on the hips and knees, and tailors his plans to the patient’s anatomy and lifestyle needs. This customization, combined with his muscle-sparing techniques, delivers outstanding long-term outcomes.

Whether you have arthritis, a previous injury, or age-related wear and tear, Dr. Lo’s goal is to help you reclaim your mobility and independence with as little disruption as possible.

General Orthopaedics

While Dr. Lo’s fellowship honed his skills in complex hip and knee procedures, he also handles other orthopaedic conditions. Across all conditions and injuries, his philosophy remains consistent: minimally invasive surgery, accelerated recovery, and minimal reliance on narcotic medications.

Why such an emphasis on minimizing narcotic use? Dr. Lo points to the growing opioid crisis in the United States.

“Narcotic addiction has been increasing throughout the country,” he explains. “Using them for 10 days straight carries a 20% addiction risk, and even a single day of continuous use has about a 6% risk. I want to minimize my patients’ complications not just from surgery, but also from the medications I prescribe for recovery.”

Trust Dr. Lo to support you in many ways. He is a professional hip and knee surgeon who ensures you receive only the best and safest care, including clearer-headed recovery periods.

On Joining OrthoUnited

Dr. Lo is a member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction, and the American Osteopathic Association. He has also published works in the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the Journal of Orthopaedics & Bone Disorders, and is an associate editor of Journal of American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics in the Adult Reconstruction section.

When asked why he chose OrthoUnited, Dr. Lo’s answer is straightforward: shared values and a shared vision.

“The surgeons here align with my goals of focusing on patient-centered care,” he says. “I was trained by these surgeons, by surgeons across the state and country, and even by surgeons featured in orthopedic textbooks. If my own family needed surgery — or if I did — I would want it to be done by this group.”
